Dracula chapters 6-10
I think Mr. Swales will play a bigger part in the book. I think that he will encounter Dracula soon because he said the he feels that his death is near. As we heard earlier in the book John letters are not getting to Lucy so I can her being worried about him so I am starting to feel bad for her. I am wondering if john will be back or if he can make it to his own wedding I honestly don’t think he will. I also think that if Mr. Swales isn’t going to be killed he works with Dracula because if him eating lives.
At this point in the book I am losing interest just because I don’t really like the characters of Lucy and Mina. I honestly think that Dracula had a big part in the ship wreck. I think that because one of the crew mates said they saw a tall, slender man who wasent part of the crew but there were no stowaways so I thought it was Dracula. I think that Mina had something to do with or knew the sea caption because she was restless the day of his funereal.
The night that Mina was found in the graveyard I think that it is clear as day that that was Druculs there because he was a dark figure with red eyes and then the next day there were red pricks on Mina’s neck so she was bitten by him. I think that she will either die or start working for him and turn on Lucy and John Harker. I think that the sleepwalking is due to her being alone and just really worried nothing big but I could be wrong.
I am starting to like the book more it is getting more interesting as I get to know Mina and Lucy more. I am happy that John made it back. I think that the Renfield person is just crazy or working with Dracula. From what I’ve herd in other stories I think that Van Helsing will end helping the Harker family because he is a hunter so that is where I think he will come into play. After his master being begged to come something bad and big is going to happen.
I think that Lucy’s health is due to being bitten by Dracula. I’m surprised that Van Helsing didn’t do anything right away and like hunt for him at that point. But he did get the garlic for her and I think that, that will help her but I think that she is just going to get worse and worse. I think that Van Helsing will start to hunt soon because he keeps worrying about the bites on her neck.

Dracula Chapers 1-5
Dracula Ch. 1-5
The first chapter was already off to a good start I like how the count had everything set up for him, if I was John Harker I would not be worried at all because the count seems like a nice guy. I’m not sure about him but to me the name Count Dracula seems a little weird but that might be because I’ve read so much bout Vampires. Another thing I thought was weird was when the crowd outside the end was shouting ware-wolf or vampire because to me they have always been mortal enemies.
First off in chapter two almost everything that repels or shows proof of a vampire is in it. If I was Harker I would be most scared when the whole thing when he was shaving came up because Dracula had no reflection (vampires don’t have a reflection) and when he wanted the blood (vampires drink blood), but then stopped when he saw the cross on Harker's neck (A Cross repels a vampire). So if i was Harker I would be very creped out and want to explore as much as I can.
I really liked Chapter three, if I was Harker I would of listen to the count about the falling asleep in your room thing. I wouldn’t however hung the cross above my bed. I think Harker made a huge mistake by wanting to stay another extra month. I thought Harker would want to leave as soon as he saw Dracula crawling down the castle. If that didn’t send him home the “dream” I thought would sure as hell send him home. I am about 99% sure that that thing with the three girls was not a dream and that is why count to him to not fall asleep in any other room besides his, if he had the cross on his neck he would have been safe.
This book is getting better and better. I thought the fourth chapter was good, but again I was confused by the whole thing with the vampire and ware-wolf working together, but on the other hand it could work to kill. The thing with the Gypsies was weird to me I thought the Gypsies were going to free Harker but wait the book would be very short. The end of the chapter would have creped me out with the blood and Harker finding the three woman that were in his “dream.”
I was happy that chapter five introduced the wife and I guess Harker friends. I didn’t like the chapter as much as I did the other ones. I felt bad for his wife when her friend told her the Harker was coming home because he wasent. I think the rest of the book will be great but I think it will have a lot of their friends because there was a dairy entry of her girlfriends soon to be husband I also think they will play a big role in the story.

The Vampyer A Tale
The Vampyre: A Tale
It took me a while to get into it I didn’t like it very much at the begging because the style wasent the best. After I got used to it the story was ok. It was a little perdicptle at points. I think that Aubrey knew he was going to be turned into a vampire or at least that is what it seemed like. It was a little hard to understand and was really hard to get into so I can’t really say much more about it.

Vampire Knight
Vampire Knight
I thought how they prorated vampires in the manga was like they do in a lot of books. The vampires had class at night witch probly meant they couldn’t go out in day light. I also thought it seemed a lot like twilight but backwards, because the two chaters zero and yuiki seemed like bella and Edward. I did like the whole thing with valtines day. But the end was hard because there were a lot of different things going on and it was hard to keep track of what was going on. It was the very first manga I have read and I thought it was good so I might read some more soon.

4 Short Stories
4 Short Stories
1). The Book of Vampires by: Dudley Wright
I found out a lot about vampires that I never knew before I read it. I never thought of the people that gets their blood sucked was asleep. I also never knew about the whole thing with cutting off the head filling the mouth with garlic and placing the head back in the coffin. To me what I think was the most interesting part of the story was the story About the boy that was young enough to be innocent, when they made him sit upon a basically perfect horse and ride to a ceminatery and walk over all the graves and if the horse would not walk over a gave no matter how many times hit that, that grave held a vampire. I think that is one of the smartest things I have heard about trying to find a vampire, I really like that method.
2). The Phantom World by; Augustin Calmet
This story was a little more confusing. I did like the part when they the author talks about the “vampire” Arnald Paul. I thought that was really interesting because of the weird things that happened. But now that I think about it I like the story that had to do with the unknown person coming to the dinner table. I was surprised by the next morning the man coming up dead. I also think the excuse that the solder gave why the man was dead was a very reasonable and good response. I liked it because I love vampires and I sort of think they are real so ya.
3). Tale of a Russian Vampire by: Helena Petrovna Blavatsky
So far I like this story the most and not because it is the shortest. I like it a lot because it was like a real story and it was really interesting. I was surprised because the man wife did not turn into a vampire she was just hurt more and more each night till it killed her. The governor stationed a lot of guards at the bridge and they eventually caught the vampire her husband. It was just too late for his daughter. I think it was really interesting but not oringale because there are a lot of vampire stories like that and some similar to that on but I still think it was the best one so far.
4). Vampires of Roumania by: Agnes Murgoci
I liked this one also but I liked the third one more. I didn’t really like the second [part of this one I didn’t really understand it I thought it was a little confusing so I can’t say much about it. I did however like the first part The Girl and the Vampire. I liked that she did see something that night but kept saying that she didn’t because the wise woman told her to say that I would have been like ok, ok id did see something when the vampire said that you’re farther will die. I think that she kept saying the she didn’t see anything because she eventually became free from the vampire and I think the wise woman knew that she should and that is why the wise woman told her do that crazy stuff.

Assignment #2
I am sure Kelsey has already found this but I think this web site is pretty interesting. I found the site http://vampires.monstrous.com/dracula_history.htm. It has the history of a lot of popular vampires and short stories about them and he history of them. One of the ancestors of Dracula is Basarab the Great (1310-1352). He was the first Prince of Wallachia which is a province of Romania. Dracula’s grandfather, Prince Mirces the Old regained from 1386-1418. Mircea had an illegitimate son named Vlad (Dracula’s farther) born around 1390. Vlad served as a page for King Sigismund of Hungary because he was educated in Hungary and Germany. Vlads son Vlad Tepes (Dracula) was born sometime between 1430 and 1431 in a Transylvanian town called Schassburg (aka Sighisoara). Just a little bit after he was born Vlad joined the order of the dragon. We think he got the name Vlad Dracul because it was believed the dragon stood for the devil or that Romanian archaic word for dragon is drac, so his subjects called him Vlad Dracul (Vlad the devil). The ending –uela means “the son of” so Druculs son Vlad III this became Vlad Dracula (the Son of the Devil). I recommend looking at the site because there are 4 pages on just the history of Dracula.
Ligeia- I think that the Vampire in the story is Ligeia, his wife. I think the way he describes her body in the second and third paragraph shows the she could be a vampire. He also showed signs of a vampire a little bit in the den of the first paragraph. I was really confused in the part of the story that is written like a poem I didn’t understand what that was supposed to be or what.
The Oval Portrait- I honestly can’t really say much about this because I was confused for the entire thing I couldn’t even sense a little bit that was like vampires. I mean is a good story but it is very confusing.
The Fall of the House of Usher. All I can really say is I think the friend at the beginning of the story is the Vampire because I can’t explain why but I just feel that it is. after that part I was confused again. I love Edgar Allan Poe but his stories can be really confusing to me.

1st Assignment
1).In my mind a vampire is nothing like they are portrayed as. Everyone who thinks of a vampire the first thing that comes to mind is a person who only comes out at night and can turn into a bat. Also they think a cross or sunlight can kill them, garlic keeps them away, and the only way to kill them is to shove a wooden stake through their heart. My view is a mix of Edward from Twilight and Mic from the show Moonlight. If you have never seen the show Mick St. John is a dective that is also a vampire. He is nothing like a normal vampire. He surpissilying hate being a Vampire, the only way they don’t age is if they feed on blood, but they can’t kill him, they only way to kill him is like you can kill a human. He doesn’t sleep in a coffin he sleeps in a freezer. To him garlic is very tasty on pizza. If you toss holy water on him he just gets wet, a cross doesn’t do anything to him. He can’t turn into a bat, and finally sunlight irritates him after a while. And I have a feeling a lot of people in the class know what Edward is like if you don’t you will when we read twilight. To me a vampire is a person who looks like a normal person and acts like a person. A vampire can go out in light and sunlight and nothing happens, a vampire can be catholic for all I care so a cross dose nothing to them nor dose holy water, a wooden stake hurts them but it won’t kill them. They do drink blood but they could get it from someone like Mick St. John or kill someone if they want to like Edward Cullen. They sleep in a bed, they could like garlic.
2).I hate to do it but a lot of the books I read are just plain horror so the only book I can think of is Twilight. I will not give anything away because I am guessing that there are some people in the class who have read it. But is about a guy and a girl (Edward and Bella) who meet when Bella moves from Arizona to forks Washington. They fall in love and Bella finds out that Edward is a vampire. So the book is a lot of Bella learning a lot about Edwards’s life and family. But later toward the end of the book there is a major twist but you will find out what it is. Werewolves play a little role in it but it doesn’t matter. The Cullen’s in Twilight are a lot like the vampire that I imagine but they only kill to get blood they don’t have a guy. Sunlight bothers them but lights like in a house or school don’t bother them.
3).Honestly I am happy about all the books that we are reading. I am just a little worried about me being able to finish the reading assiments because I am a slow reader but I will try my hardest to finish them. I have no problem with Twilight; in fact I’m almost done with New Moon the 2nd book. If I had to make a change I would say that we do not read the Historian just because it is very long. I know that because I have gotten all the books besides Vampires: Encounter with the Undead; by the way if anyone knows where to get it please tell me. If you do take that out of the list I am still going to read it on my own time.
